i think that some green growing things - if it's a stark difference from the charred bleakness preceding & surrounding it - could communicate that. another thing i keep turning around in my mind (that wouldn't necessarily negate the trees) is an image of a different bed, a grown up bed. someone is lying next to me and i'm sitting on the side, having just woken up (probably from a dream). then i go walk off into the green fields with red still at the horizon??
i love love LOVE the ink drawings from earlier of "each day i'd wake up..." After the one where i'm looking over the bed railings, the barren land could continue scrolling. (oo! Idea! In real time!) ---->
The charred fields hit a small creek/stream and on the other side of this stream are green fields. Optimism, life. It's a stark contrast. If we do the 'me in the bed, someone next to me' thing, this field of green is where we'd be. Then you see me walking through it (or possibly walking down a gravel road, surrounded by the fields). Do we see the church somewhere at the horizon line? Or a city? Or a small town w/ grain elevator & water tower?
